TMPH: Tell us something about that swollen tattoo on the cover.
CLARENCE: That was my first tattoo. It was the most meaningful of all. I have 4 tattoos (well, technically I have 5 on separate parts) and only the one on the cover and the ones on my shoulders have meaning. The one you’re talking about means Satcitananda. It’s a Hindu belief and it could be used in many ways like yoga and all that jazz.
Satcitananda is a combination of 3 sanskrit words, sat (happiness), cit (consciousness), and ananda (eternal bliss). I found it somewhere online by accident. I can’t even find it again and it’s been 3 years. Parang pinakita lang sa’kin ‘yon at that time na I need a concept for my tattoo. I stumbled upon it, fell in love with it, then for some reason, that’s what I needed at that time: happiness, consciousness, and eternal bliss.
TMPH: Tell us something about the young Clarence.
CLARENCE: Wow, that was a long time ago—pun intended. Haha. I was bright back then. I have always been a top student until 4th grade when I figured it wouldn’t mean anything if I excelled. I liked Backstreet Boys since then and up until today. Ano pa ba… I have always been polite. The quiet one. Hanggang ngayon naman but I stumbled upon the internet and then dito ako nakakapaglabas ng grievances and nakakapagvoice out, which I can’t do in real life.
TMPH: Among the pool of personalities in the campus, what type of student is Clarence?
CLARENCE: I’ve always been the class clown. Though I’m quiet, I do know how to crack a joke (the corniest jokes of all) and make people laugh. I’ve always been a jackass in school since grade school and continued in being one up to college. I’m an outcast, to say the least, but I belong in a few groups. Needless to say, I’m the unique one.
TMPH: What are your vices?
CLARENCE: Food and beer. And more food. Hahaha.
TMPH: What was your ambition when you were a child? Are you on that track of reaching for that dream?
CLARENCE: I have an uncle na laging nagbibigay sa’min ng pera everytime na magkikita, para pambaon. He’s an engineer so feeling ko dati kapag naging gano’n ako, yayaman din ako. Plus the generic doctor. Then came high school, I figured I wanted to write. I’ve been writing poems since grade school and wrote my first prose in my junior year.
But then I never really felt like I would pass as a writer. Tapos dumating ‘yung time na nakakausap ko ‘yung guidance councelor namin, which is my favorite person in school, tapos nainspire ako na kumuha ng psychology. After a few semesters, tinamad din ako for some ugly reason. Then worked at a bookstore and decided I still want to write. I’m a writer (by profession) right now though I don’t have proper training for this. Ni ‘di ako nakinig sa English lessons ko since grade school.
TMPH: You told an anon that you blog to annoy people. That respond made me laugh btw. What do you mean by that?
CLARENCE: Hahahaha. Yeah, it’s always funny for me to say that. Nakakatawa kasi I don’t really intend to annoy people pero it always comes out. I usually find things to say that are funny to me but also annoy me. Tapos in turn, it annoys or entertains people. The funny thing about it is that I do that to make people realize something if they take it in. It’s like a bad form of sarcasm but I really enjoy it. But this is a secret between you and me. I just like humiliating myself. It’s an automatic connection to people. And it’s a good way to laugh.
TMPH: “Minsan, kailangan mong magbago at isantabi ang kaisipan na —- GANITO AKO, DI AKO MAGBABAGO —— kasi hindi lang ikaw ang tao sa mundo.” Do you believe in this saying?
CLARENCE: Not really. Well, I do believe in change but I don’t like it when people try to mold me. I like this song by City & Colour called Save Your Scissors. It’s about someone the people who treat others like people and they have scissors to cut them into whatever shape they want. It says “Save your scissors for someone else’s skin, my surface is so tough, I don’t think the blade will dig in.” If I’d change, I’d change for myself and it’s because of what my judgments say so.
TMPH: 1-10, how happy are you right now?
CLARENCE: If this is just how I treat life, it’d be 10. If this is about happiness for myself, it’d be 3. Overall, I’m at a 6 or 7.
TMPH: When will you say that you’re happy and contented with your life?
CLARENCE: I’ve learned the fact that it’s good to live and everything that you have right now is what you should be happy about. Someone told me that if you tried to gain something and you didn’t, there’s no loss because you have what you have. If you gained something, then be thankful. Nonetheless, there’s no reason to dwell on something that you didn’t have or have lost since you still have a few things—in essence.
TMPH: If Clarence was a body part, what would he be and why?
CLARENCE: I’m a hand. For many reasons. Particularly the thumb, index, and the middle fingers.
TMPH: If Clarence was an animal, what would he be and why?
CLARENCE: I’d be a dog. Loyal and hungry.
TMPH: If Clarence was a food, what would he be and why?
CLARENCE: Hmm. A burger. Haha. IDK. I’d be a risotto. Probably.
TMPH: If Clarence was a color, what would he be and why?
CLARENCE: Orange. Definitely. Cheerful and melancholic.
TMPH: If Clarence was an illegal drug, what would he be and why?
CLARENCE: Marijuana. Safe, organic, and makes people happy.
TMPH: Have you tried taking illegal drugs?
TMPH: Number of evil exes.
CLARENCE: HAHAHAHAHA. The most evil of them are 4. I have 3 other that aren’t as evil but they’re hurtful in their own ways. Haha.
TMPH: Number of girls who gave you Nirvana.
CLARENCE: Quite a lot. Some are friends; some are lovers. I’d say about 8.
TMPH: That Hollywood and Local celebrity you fantasize about during “me” time.
CLARENCE: I lack imagination. But I once fantasized for about 3 weeks about Hayden Panettiere. Hahaha.
TMPH: Are you in a relationship right now?
CLARENCE: I am not. If you exclude the friends with benefits type of relationships. But I think I lost contact with them. Not sure.
TMPH: Do we still live in a Men’s world?
CLARENCE: Sadly, yes. I’m a feminist by heart. I would stand up for women’s rights and individuality. But women do have their ways now to stand up. If it was 80% before, today I’d say women now have 40% of the world by power and rights. A lot of men still are assholes and chauvinists.
TMPH: There are no straight guys on tumblr. Everyone’s happy and gay. What is your take in this straight guys cutback issue?
CLARENCE: I’m straight. I can’t believe it myself. Hahaha. Really, I know there are a lot of gays on Tumblr and they make the site a beautiful place but it doesn’t mean that everyone else is. I’d like for these gays to keep it to themselves and respect the straightness of others. Did I answer the question? Hahaha.
TMPH: Are guys better bloggers than girls?
CLARENCE: All the bloggers that I’m entertained with are girls. I don’t like how guys think. That’s why I nourish my feminine side to withdraw sentimental thoughts out of me. Male bloggers are mostly assholes and pa-cool though they do not know most of what they talk about. Haha.
TMPH: That one guy (celebrity or non-celebrity) you envy.
CLARENCE: Hmm… I don’t think anyone knows about him but I recently found an artist, I think he’s British, his name is Keaton Henson. He’s a really good musician and poet. I wish I could be like him.
TMPH: 3 tumbloggers you look up to.
CLARENCE: pagibigdatcom, iloveyoulessthanpunk, and declairx
TMPH: 5 things we don’t know about you.
CLARENCE: I’m a faithful partner, my favorite person in the world is my father, I used to be in a choir, I joined a singing contest where I humiliated myself due to nervousness, and I have a small penis. LOL De, the last one is… Uhh… I have these permanent emotions towards a girl that I’ve known for quite some time, nonetheless, I have a “dream girl” in the real world.
TMPH: Worst tumblr url you’ve encountered.
CLARENCE: I can’t remember. Hs*y. Joke. Haha. I have no idea, I’m sorry. Haha.
TMPH: Ultimate tumblr crush. (there can only be one lol)
CLARENCE: Hahahaha. Ang hirap naman nito! Okay, umm… sunffsoul ‘yung URL niya dati. Basta siya. Haha.
TMPH: Have you dated someone from tumblr?
CLARENCE: Well, they have an account pero I knew them somewhere else. Heh.
TMPH: Have you had “jamba jamba” time with someone from tumblr?
CLARENCE: Jamba jamba. Hahahaha. If that’s what I think it is then yes.
TMPH: A song you wish you’ve written.
CLARENCE: The Grand Optimist by City & Colour.
TMPH: Top 5 Songs on your playlist.
CLARENCE: Oh, this is hard. Should I create one right now? (wait…) 1. Hello, I’m In Delaware (Live, iTunes Exclusive), City & Colour; 2. Gracious, Ben Howard; 3. Lines, Lucy Rose; Lying To You, Keaton Henson; and 5. I Don’t Feel It Anymore, William Fitszimmons
TMPH: Favorite line from a song.
CLARENCE: “I’m not in the scene I think I’m falling asleep but then all that it means is I’ll always be dreaming of you.” It’s from a blink-182 song called Feeling This.
TMPH: Best movie ever.
CLARENCE: Synecdoche, New York. I love that one.
TMPH: Just curious, do you watch cartoons?
CLARENCE: I’ve always loved Nickelodeon’s. They make great cartoons!
TMPH: Message to your haters.
CLARENCE: Hate all you want. I’m enjoying. That’s it. Haha.
TMPH: Message to your friends. (the real ones)
CLARENCE: It doesn’t matter where we met or how we are right now, what matters is I’m thankful for every single one of you. I’m happy whenever you come up to me and say you miss me and I know you mean it. I’m not the approaching one but I hope you know that I’m here. Not really, I hate all of you. Joke. I love you all. And to those that I miss a lot, I hope I’ll see you soon.
TMPH: Do you have plans of settling down?
CLARENCE: Yes. I just don’t know who I’ll settle down with. HAHA.
TMPH: If yes, message to your future child. Lol
CLARENCE: You’ll be a great kid. You’ll listen to good music, you’ll make mistakes that I’ll lead you too and I’ll help you learn through it while laughing and taking life easy. And I promise you’ll have a good name.
TMPH: If no, message to your future ex wife.
CLARENCE: FUCK YOU FOR CHEATING ON ME WITH MY DRIVER. Hahahaha.
